Homemade caramel is intimidating and requires close attention and hours… I don’t have that kind of time!
Don’t worry, I’ve got a hack for you! This process is so set it and forget it easy it barely needs a recipe at all.

Step 1: Get a can of sweetened condensed milk. It can be any kind you like any brand, or type like dairy, coconut or vegetable.

Step 2: Put the can UNOPENED into a crockpot/slow cooker.
Step 3: Fill the crockpot with water to completely cover the unopened can of condensed milk.

Step 4: Put on the lid, set the crockpot to low and leave for 9 to 11 hours. I like to put it in and start it as I go to bed so I can finish it up in the morning.

Step 5: After 9 to 11 hours carefully remove the can from the crockpot and set it aside to cool completely, still unopened.
Step 6: Once cool open the can and BAM! homemade amazing dulce de leche caramel.
Step 7: Store in an airtight container for up to two weeks (trust me it will be eaten long before that!).
People will be so impressed when you tell them you made the caramel yourself! You can choose to share your secret or let them think you slaved away on it.
